The Aqua 2000 Reverse Osmosis Systems

Components and Basic System Operation

The filtration system inside your home and most often located under your kitchen sink is a Reverse Osmosis System.

The term "reverse osmosis" is derived from the process that occurs in nature as a means of supplying nutrients to cells.

By definition, osmosis is the tendency of fluids of different concentrations that are separated by a membrane to go through the membrane and become mixed.

In the reverse osmosis process, water is pressed through a semi-porous membrane by water pressure. This membrane is extremely effective in filtering water by means of this process, eliminating up to 99% of contaminants that may be found in water.

The material that is rejected from the water remains outside the membrane layers and this material is flushed into the drain.

The product water (clean water) travels through the membrane and is carried to a tank where it is stored.

The reverse osmosis system has additional filters to assist in this cleaning process.

After the water passes through the membrane, the water is deposited into the storage tank. The water in the tank is stored under pressure. Since the water in the tank is not under the same pressure as the water in the rest of your home (about 50% of the incoming pressure), the water will come out more slowly from the Reverse Osmosis System than from the other faucets in your home.

Once the water has traveled through all the filters, it arrives at the special faucet on the sink and from there it is available for your use.

It is important to note that the Reverse Osmosis System produces product water slowly. It normally takes about four hours to refill the tank once the tank has been emptied.

You will enjoy the water from your Aqua 2000 Reverse Osmosis System. We have tested your unit before it left the factory to ensure that it meets or exceeds our strict standards. If properly maintained, your system will provide you with years of service and an ample supply of healthful and delicious water.

Changing the Filters

The filters on your system must be changed each year to ensure that you have the highest quality drinking water in your home. The central filter, the Reverse Osmosis Membrane, should last from two to four years depending upon the quality of the city water. We will check the membrane each year when we service your system and tell you if the membrane should be replaced.

We have designed your system to make it possible for you to change the filters yourself. However, there are some important disinfecting and cleaning procedures that must be performed each year when the filters are changed, therefore we recommend that you call our Service Department to schedule an appointment to have us provide the recommended cleaning and install the filters for you. When we install your filters, we provide you with "original equipment" filters and further, your original equipment warrantee will continue to be honored.

Please do not allow anyone other than an Authorized Aqua 2000 Servicer to provide service to your equipment. If you have any questions as to whether or not the service person changing your filters is an Authorized Aqua 2000 Servicer, please call the office and confirm the fact with us. If someone other that an Authorized Aqua 2000 Servicer provides service or filters to your system, your warrantee will be voided and any consequential damage to your system or any damage from leaks caused will not be covered. As a note, Aqua Service Group, Inc. is an Authorized Aqua 2000 Servicer and may provide warrantee and filter service for you.

Aqua 2000 R.O. Troubleshooting Guide

Symptom: System is leaking water.

Solution: Shut off the system. To stop water leaks, you must turn off the system in two places. First, locate the R.O. tank. At the top of the tank you will find a valve. Shut this valve off by turning it ¼ of a turn. The valve handle should be parallel with the top of the tank.

Next, locate the shutoff valve on the cold water supply line. You can find this valve by tracing the line from the system to the cold water supply. Turn the handle of the valve until it is firmly shut off.

The water will now be shut off to your system. Call Aqua 2000 to repair the system.

Symptom: Water is cloudy.

Solution: Check to see if the cloudiness is caused by air in the system.

It is quite usual after the R.O. is first installed or after the fitters are changed for the water to be cloudy due to air in the filters or system. Draw a glass of water and hold it to the light. If, after a minute or so, the cloudiness disappears and a few bubbles are left on the surface of the water and the sides of the glass, then the cloudiness is caused by air. You may continue to use the water and normally within six weeks the cloudiness (air bubbles) will disappear.

If cloudiness is not caused by air, call Aqua 2000 for service.

Symptom: Water is black from the R.O.

Solution: Flush the Granulated Activated Carbon Filter. All GAC filters contain some small amount of carbon dust. This is not harmful and is normally washed out after the first flushing of the system.

If you see black water after the system is installed or after the filters have been changed, turn on the R.O. faucet and drain all the water from the R.O. tank. Turn the faucet off and wait for four hours. If the water continues to be black, the carbon filter is faulty and needs to be replaced. Call Aqua 2000 and have one delivered.

Symptom: Less than a cup of water can be drawn from the R.O.

Solution: Locate the source of restricted flow in the system.

There are two reasons for only a small amount of water in the R.O. tank after waiting four hours for it to fill if the R.O. has been working properly before this. The first is that the tank valve is shut off. Locate the valve on the top of the tank and make sure it is in the open position.

The second reason is that a water line on the R.O. is either bent or is restricted. Check to see of any of the lines are bent or if some heavy object has been placed on the line. If so, straighten the line or remove the object. If, after four hours, there is still no production of water, call Aqua 2000.

Symptom: Reverse Osmosis faucet is dripping and there is no water in the tank.

Solution: Turn off the R.O. faucet and wait four hours for the tank to fill. If the R.O. faucet was in the "off" position and the dripping continues, call Aqua 2000.

Symptom: There is no water in the R.O. System. You have just drawn off a quantity of water.

Solution: Turn off the R.O. faucet and wait four hours for the tank to refill.

NOTE: Your Reverse Osmosis System is equipped with a Membrane Test Monitor. If the button of the front panel is pushed and the light is green, your membrane is working properly. If you push the button and the light is red, call Aqua 2000 to have your membrane replaced.
